Gua Sha

Gua Sha (Chinese: 刮痧; pinyin: gua sha), literally „to remove fever” (more vague „to clear away disease by allowing the disease to escape through the skin as sand skin”) is an ancient medical treatment.

 

Gua Sha involves repeated pressure with a smooth edge on the lubricated skin. In China, it is used a ceramic soup spoon or a used coin, animal bones, water buffalo horn or jade pieces.
